In 1996 the Quinta das Cruzes Museum equipped its Educational Service with technical and human resources so that its museological services could be used as teaching resources.
The main function of this Service is to establish the communication between the Museum and the different “publics” of the Museum. To attract them it is necessary to create points of interest, motivations and forms of permanent dialogue.
The Educational Service also has the prime objective of stimulating visiting habits to Museums and the publicising and studying of its Collections.
With the school community and teaching citizenship in mind, Heritage and Environmental Education activities are carried out which involve various levels of education of the schools of Madeira.
These activities take the form of entertaining approaches in the education-learning process, involving the Museum collections, the history of the Quinta das Cruzes and the history of Madeira.
Information is made accessible to the various degrees of education and is expressed in various ways: guided, oriented and thematic tours; ateliers/teaching workshops with plastic expression activities; modelling and decoration of the pieces carried out; origami and works carried out in recycled paper etc.
The Educational Service of the Quinta das Cruzes Museum orients guided tours, when requested, subject to prior bookings by phone, fax or e-mail.
All the bookings shall be confirmed by the service.
The Service also guides teachers and childcare workers in the preparation of other activities.
