.7 | Bedroom

Going up another flight of stairs, we come to a corridor that leads to the bedrooms. Its walls are lined with a set of English prints from the end of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th centuries. A group of prints from Francesco Bertollozi, William Hamilton and Giovani Battista Cipriani, amongst others. Still in the room, a gilded carved wood Portuguese mirror, in Maria I style.

In the first bedroom we can see a typical Madeiran atmosphere with its furniture, reminiscent of the first half of the 19th century. Notice the canopy bed with a dossel, the wash basin, the commode, the chest of drawers with its vanity dresser, and we may also appreciate the Madeiran style arm chair with tapered legs, following the English Regency moulds. There is also an oil painting of St John the Baptist, by the Madeiran artist Nicolau Ferreira, signed and dated 1796. From Max Römer, two portraits of his daughters and a water colour of an orchid.

In evidence, a Madeiran wooden table with marquetry work from the end of 19th century.
